I saw in the sticky thread that there were a few different suggestions on what kinds of sealers everyone uses and I guess I'm kind of trying to get a better idea of which ones everyone likes. I recently painted a custom for my daughter and the only sealer I had on hand was miniwax polycrylic and it ended up chipping off really quickly and taking the paint underneath off as well. I'm wondering what sealers everyone uses that will stand up to being played with.

I use Liquitex matte varnish to seal my customs and have no issues with it, though if the paint altogether is coming off and showing the plastic underneath, the problem may be more with your base coat and/or the plastic surface more than the sealer. I sand down pets (especially the newer ones) with a fine grit sandpaper so that the plastic is "toothed" or however it's called, and then use an acrylic primer over that, and typically that's basically impossible to remove or scratch off at that point, and anything painted over that is very durable as well.

A lot of people use Mod Podge for their customs (including me). There's acctually two versions of it that I've seen; the matte version, and the regular version. The matte version isn't as glossy as the regular, though
