Hi All
I know nothing of LPS. So why am I here? Because my 11 year old wants to sell off her LPS to raise money for an ipad and I was hoping for some education. We posted her 21 figures on Kijiji and very quickly had quite a bit of interest (visits). We also received quite a few replies with questions and offers. Something about the replies did not sit well with me though as I felt those people knew more than I did. So I did a quick study and realized there is a huge realm of LPS collecting !!!!!! This did not actually surprise me as I am an avid collector of vintage diecast cars and trucks (Dinky, Corgi, Matchbox, etc). As such, I fully understand the addiction to collecting especially when there are so many other people who share the same hobby.
I use a forum or two for my diecast hobby and was excited to find this one. It has a very similar "look and feel" as the diecast forum I use most often. It also seems to have topics, conversations, knowledge, friendliness, etc that are wonderfully familiar. On the diecast forum, newbies often come for guidance and then are never heard from again. I dont mind as long as they are polite and seem genuine. I like to help newbies as much as I enjoy continued communications with regulars. I admit, when I joined here there was no intention of being an active member. Once my daughter's LPS are gone there wont be continued LPS collecting for me. I'm sure you fellow collectors know how easy it is to be sucked up into an new addiction (hahaha). Something my home does not have the space for.
I am not looking to retire off these figures, I just dont want to be taken advantage of by someone who knows they know more than me. My short research to date has raised some questions I thought members here could help with. I apologize if these topics are covered elsewhere at this forum, but I thought it easier (for me anyways) to just ask some q's here.
A few figures have 5 digit numbers in black on the bottom of their feet/paws. I understand there are not this many figures out there, so what are these numbers? For example, a spaniel with "10121 and C-031D"
Where is the best resource for identification of figures? I came across a "checklist" here but I cannot seem to view it. Is there something to be downloaded?
Can a particular figure number have various colours, or would each colour have it's own number? For example I have a No. 249 Scottie Dog in Tan. Would another one with all the same detail except in black also be 249 or would this be given another number?
I understand eye colour can depict rarity. What colours are rare or not rare?
I have a couple figures with TM & MGA on them. I understand these are not Hasbro LPS. Does anyone know of these? I think they may be Bratz Lil' Petz ??
I understand Hasbro released generation 2 in 2005. I have one marked Hasbro 2004 and it is definitely G2 with bobble Head. Is 2004 just the copyright but released in 2005 or did G2's hit the store shelves in 2004.
Thank you so much for your Forum and assistance. Maybe I can return the favour if you have diecast questions.
Cheers!
